How AP exams work
Each AP exam combines multiple-choice items with a free-response section, and the mix differs by subject: calculus papers ask for justifications, biology exams for long-form reasoning, and history/composition-based subjects for essays.
Popular choices include Calculus AB/BC, Biology, Chemistry, Physics 1, Physics 2, and Physics C, English Literature and Language, World History, US Government, and Computer Science A.
