IB Diploma Programme Online: Structure, Assessment, and the Grade

The IB Diploma Programme is a two-year curriculum for students aged 16–19, offered in roughly 3,000+ schools worldwide. You study six subjects — three at higher level (HL) and three at standard level (SL) — plus three core components: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and CAS (creativity, activity, service).

1

Ask anything

Stuck at 11pm before a test? Ask in chat or by voice. Answers are worked to your exam's style — not generic textbook copy.

2

Watch it explained

Every topic can become a short video lesson, generated for your chapter — with real examples and diagrams.

3

Follow a plan that adapts

A daily plan built from your syllabus's weightage. Miss a day? It rebalances instead of guilt-tripping.

Each subject is graded 1–7, you need at least 24 points to pass, and up to 3 bonus points from TOK and the EE can push the maximum to 45.

How the DP is assessed

External exams are taken in May or November sessions. Internal assessments (IAs) are marked by the school and moderated externally, and they typically carry around 20–25% of the subject mark.

The core — TOK, the EE, and CAS — is where the bonus points hide, and it is often the part students run out of time to do properly.

Where OmniTutor fits

Build one journey per subject, with the plan split across both years so HL depth and SL breadth both get their share. Exam countdown mode makes the May or November window visible months ahead.

Practice the question styles the boards actually use and log recoverable mistakes per subject — the core included, so it never slips into exam-season panic.

HL maths AA past paper questions with full mark-scheme reasoning. Paper 3 stopped being terrifying once I practised explorations the same way.

The data-based questions in HL chemistry are a skill of their own. Drilling them by unit moved my paper 2 from a 4 to a 6.

Questions

Asked before you did.

At least 24 points across six subjects (grades 1–7 each), with the core requirements — TOK, EE, and CAS — completed. Up to 3 bonus points can lift a strong score to the 45 maximum.

IAs are typically worth around 20–25% of a subject and are school-marked then externally moderated. The exact weight varies by subject, so check your subject’s assessment outline.

No — and it should not: IAs and the EE are your own academic work. OmniTutor helps you plan, practice, and review; it never writes submissions for you.
